The Ministry of Education regulations identify two reasons for school absences - illness and other unavoidable causes. This year, we do recognize that Study Hall is optional attendance, providing we have confirmation from a parent/guardian excusing the student from attending. Otherwise, the student is to attend Study Hall.
For all absences from school, (full day or partial day) a parental/guardian is to notify the school before 2:00 pm on the day of absence for any student under age 18 by email to firstname.lastname@example.org, a written note, or a phone call to the school (705) 445-3161 x 41573. Include the date of absence, reason, and an acknowledgment if your child has a test or assignment due on the day of absence. For known absences, arrangements for missed tests/assignments should be made with the teacher in advance of the absence.
Students 18 years or older may write their own notes. The same limits and tolerances for absences and lates apply to adult students as they do for students under 18 years.
Each evening, the automated attendance system will call home if the school has not been notified of the absence by the parent/guardian.
- The student is responsible for work and assignments missed due to absence.
